The Nemisis Model NW4 includes three standard size, 18" by 18" platforms on the lower levels and one oversize 19" by 24" platform at the top level. This makes the rack perfect for use with most turntables.
The 2nd and 3rd platform are provided with infinate adjustment. With the standard 32" columns, you'll get about seven inches of component bay at each of the three lower levels. More or less depending on how you distribute the shelf adjustment. 48" columns are also available.
The standard platform size is 18 x 18 inches. This size works well with most components so long as the feet will land within an 18 x 18 inch square and the component has a maximum width of 19 inches.
As with the original Nemisis III rack, this model is also considered "frameless". By that we mean the platfrom actually replaces the horizontal frame portion of the traditional audio rack. Our intention is to support the platforms through the use of the columns alone, and not through the use of cross beams.
A rack will always take-on the sonic properties of the cross-beams and with this design, the maple platform "is" the cross-beam.
The columns are held in the vertical position by the base-frame, a heavy-gauge steel structure that is used as a common element throughout the entire Nemisis series.
The shelf support system, machined from billet aluminum, is unique in the way that it mates with the platform at a 45 degree angle achieving diagnal loading. In addition to providing better component clearance and cosmetic appeal, it's intended purpose is in the fact contributes to the sonic performance of the stand by diverting most of the resonant energy directly toward the floor through compression loading of the column, while diverting the rest of the energy in the form of torque loading of the column. The platform is essentially coupled simultaniously in both the vertical and horizontal planes and yet at a diagonal angle.
The solid-brass spikes "bite" into the beveled edge of the platform's end-grain and couple it well. As a matter of fact, there is a settling-in period where the rack's torsional stiffness actually increases over the first few hours after assembly. This is a pretty good indication that the platform is "locking" itself to the rack. Alternately, soft-couple devices may be substited if further tweaking is desired. The support blocks accept 1/4-20 threaded devices.
A matching ampstand, the Nemisis NG1 is also available.
The unit in the photo features the 18x18 inch platform. A 19x24 platform is also available.
